Afraid of the Ghost Post? đź‘»

Have you ever thought twice about posting because you don’t think anyone will like it?

We’ve all been there at least once.

But every content creator will tell you at a certain point you stop caring as much.

This has a direct parallel to thought leadership.

A thought leader is someone who establishes themself as an expert.

You may not view yourself as an expert in a particular field, but you do have a reputation.

Is your personal brand what you want to be known for?

  • If so, you’re a thought leader in that space.

  • If not, it’s time to be more intentional.

The reason I titled this “ghost post” is because that’s where thought leadership starts.

It’s natural to be afraid to attempt to prove yourself as an authority figure.

But that is where it starts…saying something before having an audience to listen.

A ghost post is feeling like no one cares about your opinion.

Therefore, out of fear, you stop participating and become a bystander.

But if you don’t speak up, how will anyone hear your voice?

Let’s take LinkedIn as an example.

Check out these stats:

  • 90% of people are consumers only.

  • 9% are engaged (liking, comments, etc.)

  • 1% create content

The data may be skewed a bit, but you get the picture.

Thought leaders only represent 10% of the participants on LinkedIn.

That means if you comment on posts and better yet, create content you’re in the top 10%!

Of course you want to refine your voice, but it starts by showing up consistently.

Anyone who is a thought leader cringes at what they initially put out, but if you can laugh later it means you got better.

I’m here to encourage you to be a producer.

Don’t allow fear to put you on the sidelines.

Your voice will be clarified over time if you continue to churn out ideas.

I’m no influencer by any means, but I’m committed to the process.

I want to be known as the go-to guy on #softskills.

  • Therefore, I post multiple times a week to stay on people’s radar.

  • There are times where the views, comments and interest is minimal.

  • Yet if I allowed myself to be solely fueled by dopamine I would have quit years ago.

Another caveat to the ghost post is you never know who is lurking.

I don’t mean that in a creepy way (we’re focused on LinkedIn at the moment still…).

There are some employers who frown upon their employees being active on LinkedIn.

But that doesn’t mean they’re not looking and consuming your content.

All I’m saying is becoming a thought leader isn’t something built overnight.

The connection between a ghost post and thought leadership is you gotta start somewhere.

If the objective is to become a thought leader in the space you choose, you have to be willing to throw some ghost posts out there to find out what sticks.

Don’t allow fear to derail your dreams.

You possess something that someone else needs.

Get out there and start speaking up đź—Ł
