Be Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

You know what growth feels like?

Discomfort

Not the type where your foot falls asleep or pain from kidney stones, but the type where your stomach rises before a drop on a roller coaster.

When you put yourself in a situations where you feel uncomfortable you’ve already won half the battle.

Now use some discretion about what scenarios you put yourself in, but let me give you a personal example to illustrate the point.

The goal I set to get over my fear of public speaking:

Do a TEDx Talk

Were the nerves at an all time high right when my name was announced?

Yes.

But was the anxiety worth it?

Yes.

There will be things in life you try and still don’t care for (for me it’s roller coasters).

But if you cower from trying those things how will you ever get over that fear?

Leadership is a role where no matter how much you prepare, study and practice you’ll face uncomfortable situations often.

What separates the good from the great leader is a willingness to put yourself in uncomfortable situations for personal growth and the betterment of the team.

  • Part of that is admitting you need help.

  • Managing people doesn’t improve within a silo.

  • You have a choice: travel fast alone or further together.

Hiring a coach early on in my career was an invaluable investment for me personally.

I got to move at my pace, talk about my goals and direct the agenda.

My coach helped me see my blind spots, guided me through my strengths and helped accomplish my goals faster.

Having a coach is like hiring a personal trainer, but for your mind.

Currently I’m working with a few companies where individual coaching is a strong component.

  • There’s nerves and excitement prior to challenging and pushing a client.

  • Without that added accountability, it’s easy to put off the discomfort of change.

  • Yet deep down you know that’s exactly what you need 👊🏻

So if you’ve been putting off working with someone to improve your leadership skills, reply to this email and let’s tackle those growth opportunities together.

God Bless,
