When The Going Gets Tough, What Do You Do?

How well do you bounce back?

Being resilient has more to do with controlling your emotions than the situation you’re facing.

That may not be what you want to hear, but it’s the truth.

There’s a mental strength that comes with resiliency that you need in your career.

Let’s talk about managing your emotions.

If you’ve ever worked with people (yes, even if you work remotely you still communicate with others) it gets messy.

Dealing with different personalities, styles, values, strengths, quirks, etc.

It’s why managing people is one of the hardest jobs out there!

(That’s why leaders need more of this, not less.)

But let’s shift the focus to building your personal brand.

(I promise there’s a tie in here.)

Often you put off working on your brand because you don’t perceive you need it right now.

That couldn’t be further from the truth…

Your brand is like your network.

If you wait until you need it for something it’s too late.

So for example, if you want to build resiliency into your brand start being more flexible and adaptive (easier said than done for some).

  • Remember, your brand is determined by others, not you.

  • The way you make people feel after they interact with you is your brand.

  • The more aligned your intentions are with people’s experiences with you, the stronger your brand becomes.

This may be a lot to chew on at this point, so check out my LinkedIn Live on the subject where Ash Gosselin and me discuss career strategy.

Building resiliency and your personal brand start with clear intentions and consistent behaviors/habits over time.

In fact, one of the talks I offer includes boosting your emotional intelligence so if you’re interested in bringing me to your next event reply to this email and we’ll set up the details.

God Bless,
