Training is NOT a Luxury

60% of new managers fail within the first 24 months in their new role (CEB Global).

The main culprit is a lack of training.

I’m not talking about a one-time thing, but ongoing monthly training.

If that sounds excessive, explain the following stats:

  • 90% of managers aren’t equipped to lead (Forbes)

  • Nearly 50% of managers w/ 10+ years of experience claim they’ve only received about 9 total hours of training. (Lorman Training)

  • 43% of managers who have been in their role for less than a year say they’ve had no training. (Lorman Training)

Sounds pretty needed to me.

Here are a few ways a lack of (manager) training impacts your company:

  1. Retention/Turnover - 75% of people leave their job because of a poor manager. Managers control the churn of talent at your company

  2. New role, New Skills Needed - the transition from individual contributor to supervisor is the most difficult one you’ll make in your career. The skills got you hired/promoted won’t serve you in your new role.

  3. People Development - your main role as a manager is to bring out the best in your team, but how can you do that if you don’t have the right skills to pass on?

If this information sounds pretty damning, it’s because it is.

But there’s something you can do about it.

God Bless,
