Your Freedom Killer

Being busy is NOT a badge of honor.

Everyone says they desire autonomy, but sometimes we self-sabotage.

How so?

Our schedules.

You either control your schedule or your schedule controls you.

  • Similar to writing a to-do list.

  • Not all tasks are created equal.

Instead of filling your schedule with limited downtime…

Start prioritizing what matters.

For example, leave a couple of days “open” during your week.

(Fine, you can start with one.)

Not only will your body thank you for the rest and recovery, but it’s also a great way to manage your energy.

Imagine your life as a cup of water.

  • The more time and energy you have (filled up), the more you can freely give.

  • Compared to when you’re running on empty, you’re literally running on fumes.

  • I witness too many people tired, fatigued and exhausted where most of the time it’s their own doing.

Freedom means the ability to choose.

But when you’re a slave to your schedule, there’s not much choice involved.

There are seasons in life where things get crazy, but what I’m talking about is not allowing that to be your lifestyle.

If this feels like a lecture, it’s not meant to be.

It’s a re-focus towards prioritizing what matters.

  1. Start with the end in mind. What do you want to be remembered for?

  2. Eliminate tasks that don’t serve the purpose above.

  3. Be comfortable saying “no” so you can say yes to more important stuff.

If you feel busy this change won’t happen overnight.

You can start with baby steps.

It’s better to be “fresh” and energized for the days ahead.

That happens by inserting breaks in your schedule.

I too like packed days from time-to-time (feeling accomplished).

Yet the feeling of running on empty reminds me of not being present - physically there, but mentally absent.

So this is your reminder to evaluate how you spend your time.

Whether you are single, in a relationship or married the same rules apply.

How you manage your energy directly impacts how effectively you interact with others.

From time-to-time unexpected things will come up that you can’t control, but generally your schedule is determined by you.

Time management is a huge issue both personally and professionally - efficiency and productivity.

Don’t allow your schedule to dictate your life.
